RACE CANCELLED AS OF APRIL 2ND



Event Name:	April 2nd- The race is cancelled. We came very close to putting on a 'real' ski mountaineering race outside of a ski area but unfortunately the people and $ resources are not yet there. The San Juans are too far from the majority of the participants and sponsors - in 2008. I truly beleive we can have an event in the area within a few years, but for 2008 it is not happening. A-Basin is very much on - I look forward to seeing you there. - Pete March 30th - The course is dialed and set - we're waiting on permits. We expect to confirm the race is a GO on Tuesday. Pictures and maps of the course will be posted as soon as we have approval from the BLM/USFS. Thanks for your patience. March 26th - A new all-backcountry venue has been found in the Molas Pass area. I will be in the area this weekend to scout the course and confirm many details before the new venue becomes official. If this does move forward (as of Wednesday evening I'll say its "likely") this will be a real rando race: big vertical and no groomed ski runs. A number of you have inquired about the teams concept: yes, this will be a team race. If you cannot find a team mate you will be allowed to race in an "open" category, but the team concept is a big part of the race. The majority of big races in Europe are team events of 2-3 people; it's more fun and safer, particularly as we'll not be at a ski resort on this one. Once confirmed, please help get the word out - it's an amazing location. As this is a true backcountry race with big terrain opportunities, this will likely be the longest COSMIC race with as much steep vertical and technical skinning as conditions permit. I hope to have another positive update soon. March 20th, 2008 - The Silverton Mountain Hardcore Challenge has been cancelled.
